Local Modern Woodmen representative honors The Visual Bucket List founders as hometown heroes

The founders of The Visual Bucket List Foundation, Steven and Christine Meyers were recognized Sunday by the local Modern Woodmen for their commitment to helping children who are battling some type of present or future visual impairment. As part of the Hometown Hero Program, members of the Mansfield Modern Woodmen chapter surprised Steven & Christine at their fundraising event with plagues, certificates and a $100 award to each to be donated to the charitable organization of the honoree’s choice. “I’m going to take a bet they will choose to give their $100 donation to The Visual Bucket List. I would encourage others to learn about this foundation… You will want to give back to this organization as well,” local Modern Woodmen agent and chapter activities coordinator, Lauren Brown joked. “Local heroes form the foundation of a strong community,” Brown continued. “Modern Woodmen’s Hometown Hero Program gives us the chance to thank those who are going above & beyond to make people’s lives better. “In this case they are selflessly dedicating their lives to helping families that are facing situations that one cannot imagine and one that they have and continue to go through themselves. After I learned Steven and Christine’s story and what they are doing through this foundation, I knew they were heroes.” Coordinated by local Modern Woodmen members, the fraternal financial services organization’s Summit chapters, chapters and youth service clubs provide opportunities for members to take part in social and educational activities and volunteer projects to meet local needs. As a tax-exempt fraternal benefit society, Modern Woodmen sells life insurance, annuity and investment products to improve quality of life for its members, their families and their communities. This is accomplished through social, charitable and volunteer activities. Annually, Modern Woodmen and its members provide nearly $20 million and over 400,000 volunteer hours for community projects nationwide.
